DAYS
PROGRAMS
Day 01
Delhi: Arrival in New Delhi and transfer to the Hyatt Regency or Imperial Hotel for overnight stay.
Day 02
Whole day in Delhi. Full day sightseeing in Old and New Delhi with English speaking guide, visiting first the Red Fort, then by cycle rickshaw through Old Delhi visiting the Spice Market and the Jama Masjid (Asia's largest mosque).
Afternoon visit to Lutjen's New Delhi, Parliament buildings and India Gate, the Gandhi monuments, Humayun's Tomb and the Qutub Minar. Return to the Hotel for overnight stay.
Day 03
Delhi - Neemrana: Leave after breakfast for the beginning of your tour of Rajasthan. Today you have just a short drive to Neemrana, a 15th century totally reconstructed fort. Take your drinks on the ramparts and watch the sunset over the plains of Rajasthan before dinner. Overnight stay at the Fort Palace.
Day 04
Neemrana - Mandawa: Morning drive to Mandawa. This is one of the many villages in the Shekhawati area, which is famous for it's painted havelis and wild peacocks. Check in at the Castle Mandawa or if you prefer, the Desert Resort, created like a Rajasthani village set amongst lawns and perched on a hill overlooking the entire area. Afternoon visit to the neighbouring villages to see the havelis of Nawalgarh, Dundlod and Mandawa. Overnight stay at Desert Resort or Castle Mandawa. (Swimming pool at Desert Resort)
Day 05
Mandawa - Khimsar: Leave after breakfast continuing your drive west towards the desert, stopping in Khimsar at it's magnificent Fort. The hotel not only has a swimming pool, yoga, massages and health club facilities, they will also organise a trip our by camel or by jeep to visit the herds of blackbuck which are found in this area. Overnight stay at Khimsar.
Day 06
Khimsar - Jaisalmer: Leave after breakfast continuing on to the desert, stopping on the way to visit the Jain temples at Osiyan. Continue your drive to Jaisalmer, the golden walled city of the Thar desert. Check-in at the Gorbandh Palace or similar.
Rest of the day free.
Day 07
Whole day in Jaisalmer: Today free to roam the desert city and fort of Jaisalmer and visit the bazaars or an optional half day sightseeing to visit the Fort, lakes and chhatris (monuments to past maharajas and maharanis) and the three famous havelis. Afternoon drive out to the desert for safari and overnight stay in the desert including bonfire, dinner and musicians and dancers.
Day 08
Jaisalmer: After a morning camel safari and breakfast, return to Jaisalmer for afternoon sightseeing and overnight stay.
Day 09
Jaisalmer - Jodhpur: Leave Jaisalmer after breakfast for a drive southeast to the blue city of Jodhpur. Check in at the Ajit Bhawan, an ancient palace with a Rajasthani style village built in it's grounds. Accommodation is in beautiful village style cottages.
Day 10
Jodhpur - Ranakpur - Udaipur: Leave Jodhpur early morning for a beautiful drive down to Ranakpur.Ranakpur is famous for it's incredible Jain temple, built here on 1444 marble pillars in 1433 AD, in the middle of the jungle. Take lunch if desired in the nearby Queen's Orchard before continuing on south to arrive at the end of the afternoon in Udaipur, Rajasthan's city of lakes. Drive to the Doodh Tallai jetty where you will be ferried across Lake Pichola to the Banyan Tree jetty of the Hotel Trident, which is built in true Indian style.
Day 11
Whole day in Udaipur: Morning sightseeing including a visit to the City Palace and one of the Art Schools. See young boys learning to paint the miniatures for which Udaipur is so famous. Afternoon free to roam the narrow streets and bazaars or maybe take a boat ride over Lake Pichola. You can also take English afternoon tea in the Fateh Prakash Palace. Overnight stay at the hotel.
Day 12
Udaipur - Pushkar: Morning drive to Pushkar, one of the holiest Hindu sites in north India. Check into the Pushkar Palace, the only lakeside hotel, from where you can witness the ritual bathings and prayers which take place daily on the Ghats (staircases of marble descending into the water). Take a walk around the lake to see all this at close hand if desired.N.B. In Pushkar, meat and alcohol are not allowed.
Day 13
Pushkar - Jaipur: Get up early to witness the sights and sounds of the people performing their morning absolutions at the lakeside. After this, you leave for Jaipur, the pink city and capital of Rajasthan. Check in at the Trident Hotel, probably the best-located hotel in Jaipur overlooking the Jal Mahal Lake and Water Palace. Rest of the day free.
Day 14
Whole day in Jaipur: Morning visit to Amber Fort and Palace. The last part of the journey will be made by elephant. Tour of the fort and palace. Afternoon optional visit to the textile block printers and carpet makers for which Jaipur is renowned, the City Palace and Museum, passing the Hawa Mahal - Palace of the winds. Over night at the Trident.
Day 15
Jaipur - Sariska - Kesroli: Leave Jaipur for the lovely drive through the Aravelli Hills. You can visit the Tiger Reserve at Sariska along the way if you desire. This wildlife park is filled with birds, apes, monkeys, blue buck, wild boar, peacocks, deer and of course tiger! Continue the drive through this very scenic area to the 14th century fort of Kesroli for your overnight stay.
NB Kesroli is closed in the summer months. Then day 15 will be a drive from Jaipur to Agra stopping at Chandra Mahal Haveli for overnight stay.Chandra Mahal is set in a tiny village and was previously the hunting Lodge of the Bhutto Family.
Day 16
Kesroli - Deeg - Fatehpur Sikri - Agra/ or Chandra Mahal-Fatehpur Sikri-Agra.Leave after breakfast for another beautiful drive to the ruins of Deeg,and then on to the deserted city of Emperor Akbar, Fatehpur Sikri. You will arrive in Agra at the end of the day, probably in time to visit the Red Fort. Overnight stay at the Trident Hotel.
Day 17
Agra - Delhi: Drive back to Delhi for your return or onward flight.
