SHISHAPANGMA EXPEDITION (8,212 m.)
Many climbers regard Shisha Pangma as being the last difficult of the 8,000m peaks. It is a popular objective for guided teams, although recent years have seen a greater interest in Cho Oyu, which is currently fashionable among commercial operators. The climbing is nowhere difficult, although the extreme hardship of climbing at such an altitude cannot be overstressed. The route follows a long valley and glacier to gain the North West Ridge, which is climbed, amid spectacular scenery, to the summit. Three camps will be used and some load carrying will be incorporated into the acclimatization program. As with our Cho Oyu expedition, we spend several days acclimatizing near Nyalam before the climb, which we have found to be very advantageous.
